1984 Anti Sikh Riots:- An Endless Wait For Justice

First day - 31st October 1984

9:20 am: Indira Gandhi is shot by Sardar Beant Singh ji and Sardar Satwant Singh ji at her residence, No. 1 Safdarjung Road, for the Attack on Sri Darbar sahib June 1984.

She is then rushed to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

10:50 am: Indira Gandhi dies.

11:00 am: All India Radio listeners learn that the two security guards who shot Indira Gandhi were Sikhs.

4:00 pm: Rajiv Gandhi returns from West Bengal and reaches AIIMS. Stray incidents of attacks in and around that area. Rajiv Gandhi has already by this time spoken to some high ranking congress officials and politicians.

5:30 pm: The motorcade of President Zail Singh, who is returning from a foreign visit, is stoned as it approaches AIIMS.

EVENING of 31st October 1984 URGENT meetings are taking place at a high ranking congress leaders residences in Delhi.

One of those meetings was at 24 Akbar Road, New Delhi attended by members of Parliament and senior members of the Congress party including Jagdish Tytler, Sajjan Kumar, Kamal Nath, Dharam Das Shastri, Vasant Sathe, HKL Bhagat, Lalit Makhen, Arjun Das amongst others.

What is being discussed? The planning of a genocide! How to bring in tyres, kerosene oil, iron rods, and have enough transport to mobilise paid hooligans, rapists, murderers from one point to another...how the police are not to intervene, how state media will be used to show inflammatory speeches and scenes.

Congress MP's are ordered to make pacts with known 'criminal gangs' in their area's to eliminate Sikh men, rape their women and loot their belongings. A memo is sent out to ALL Delhi police stations ordering the immediate 'stand down' of ALL Sikh police officers till further notice AND for all Sikh police officers equipped with fire arms to return their fire arms to the local police station as of immediate effect.

1000's of photocopies of Voters list are being printed, containing ADDRESSES of Sikh houses and businesses in and around Delhi. Organised and well equipped gangs of ruffians set out in different directions from AIIMS. The violence, including violence towards Sikhs and destruction of Sikh properties, spreads. Rajiv Gandhi is sworn in as the Prime Minister.

Senior advocate and BJP leader Ram Jethmalani, meets Home Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao and urges him to take immediate steps to protect Sikhs from further attacks. Delhi's Lt. Governor, P.G. Gavai and Police Commissioner, S.C. Tandon, visits some of the affected areas. Late evening, Delhi transport corporation buses are making their way out of Delhi to surrounding states to pick up paid hooligans/mobs.

NIGHT of 31st October 1984 Meetings are still taking place AND now truck loads of Iron rods and tyres are coming into Delhi from surrounding states. Trains and tankers full of kerosene oil are also making their way to OLD Delhi.

Jails around Delhi housing the most ruthless criminals are now being emptied of ALL those criminals including murderers and rapists, on the grounds that they can go FREE if they kill Sikh men and rape Sikh women, they are also told they will be paid for every Sikh that is killed and for every Sikh woman that is raped.

Second day - 1st November 1984 Congress party MP Sajjan Kumar and Trade Union leader Lalit Maken handed out 100 rupee notes and bottles of liquor to assailants. On the morning of 1st November, Sajjan Kumar was seen holding rallies in, at least, the following Delhi neighborhoods; in Palam Colony from 6:30 AM to 7:00 AM, in Kiran Gardens from 8:00 AM to 8:30 AM, and in Sultanpuri from around 8:30 AM to 9:00 AM.

In Kiran Gardens at 8:00 AM, Sajjan Kumar was seen distributing iron rods from a parked truck to a group of 120 people and instructing them to "attack Sikhs, kill them, and loot and burn their properties" The FIRST killing of a Sikh occurs in east Delhi. Armed mobs with guns lead the way.

9:00 am: Armed mobs take over the streets of Delhi and launch a massacre. Among the first targets are Gurdwaras. Sikhs seen in cars, public transport, including buses and trains are being dragged out...Sikh men are being beaten with rods and tyres are being placed around their necks... doused with kerosene oil..they are being set a light! Before they are being burnt they are pinned down and their hair and beards are being forcibly cut off.

120 Sikhs working at the Bokaro Steel Plant Jharkhand thrown alive into burning furnaces.

In Agartala, Tripura 40 Sikh families who took refuge in a police station to save their lives were burnt alive in the police station.

In Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh 12 Sikhs were hanged from the ceiling at the railway platform. Sikh women are being gang raped, beaten...stripped naked they sit next to the burning bodies of their husbands, bothers, sons. 40-50 Sikh girls are kidnapped and taken to a Chilla village where they are raped for 7 days!! Sikh belongings are being looted, their homes and business set alight. The police refuse to help or intervene. In some cases, the Police actually assist the mobs by disarming Sikhs so they could attack them. The worst affected areas are low income colonies like Trilokpuri, Shahdara, geeta colony,Mongolpuri, Sultanpuri and Palam Colony. 100's of Gurdwara are being burnt, Shiri Guru Granth Sahib ji de saroop are being set alight...Waheguru. This scene is being replicated in others parts of India.

The state media show looped video clips of Amitabh Bachchan raising slogans like "Khoon ka badla khoon" (blood for blood) and "Khoon ke chintey sikhon ke ghar tak pahunchni chahiye" (Splashes of blood should reach the doorsteps of Sikhs).

Third day -2nd November 1984 A repeat of 1st November. And A curfew is announced throughout Delhi, but is not enforced. The Army deployed throughout Delhi too but ineffective because the police did not co-operate with soldiers (who are not allowed to open fire without the consent of senior police officers and executive magistrates). The killings, rapes and looting continue.

Fourth day -3rd November 1984 Massacre continues. By late evening, the national Army and local police units work together to subdue the violence. After law enforcement intervention, violence is comparatively mild and sporadic. In Delhi the dead bodies of the victims were taken to All India Institute of Medical Sciences New Delhi and Civil Hospital Mortuary Tis hazari, Delhi.

It is now believed that 30,000 plus Sikhs Perished throughout India during these 4 days of State Sponsored Massacre. 100's of Sikh women listed missing / unaccounted for. 100's of young children missing /unaccounted for.

Even after 30 years the justice is still far away. And only god know how long it will remain the same.

Lessons for Life #52

The sad truth is that there are some people who will only be there for you as long as you have something they need. When you no longer serve a purpose to them, they will leave. The good news is, if you tough it out, you’ll eventually weed these people out of your life and be left with some great people you can count on. We rarely lose friends, we just gradually figure out who our real ones are.
~ Darren John Maxwell

The world is full of people of the first kind, the ones who seek something from their friends. So you need to identify them not because you would want them to remove them from your life but also because in the process of elimination you will get to know who the real ones are, the one there for you without needing anything in return. And they are worth to be part of your life. :)

Lessons for Life #51

51 it is. Do you know that 51 is considered a auspicious number in India (basically Punjab).
So lets see what we got this time. This pic says that fear is temporary but regret is forever. Does this ring your bells. On what account this is true.

Well, its about any task or thing we think of doing but end up not starting it out of fear, but what next. Guess later in future we start regretting it and it goes on till the end. So basically fear is up to that point where we decide to do it or not. And regret comes later when we don't do it. Regret hurts more than anything and you gotta believe this.

So the thing is if initially you are afraid but finally you gather enough courage to start with that thing/task then there is no reason for regret for the rest of your life, because then even if you fail its assured that at least you give it a good shot.

Next time you encounter anything, try and defeat fear to give it try or else you will end up regretting about it your whole life.

Power Of Love: Lessons for Life #50

Here we are at our 50th lesson and it seems I just started a few days back. Never knew that "Golden Jubilee" will come so soon. On this special occasion lets learn something about the basic and most important feeling of any relationship. And you are right..!! Its LOVE.

Have you ever heard that what can it do. Well, lets see:-

There is no difficulty that enough love will not conquer,
no disease that enough love will not heal,
no door that enough love will not bridge,
no wall that enough love will not throw down,
no sin that enough love will not redeem.
It makes no difference
how deeply seated may be the trouble,
how hopeless the outlook,
how muddled the tangle,
how great the mistake.
A sufficient realization of love will dissolve it all. If only you could love enough, you could be the happiest and most powerful being in the world..!!
—Emmet Fox

So from now on try to love enough to cope with all the things of your life and make heaven here on earth :)

Its Going to Be Okay

Sometimes the door closes on a relationship, not because we failed but because something bigger than us says this no longer fits our life. So, lock the door, shed your tears, and when you’re ready, turn around and look for the new door that’s opened. Just assume that better things are coming. It’s a sign that you’re no longer that person you were, it’s time to change into who you are. Just give it time. It’s going to be okay.

Lessons for Life #49

Today lets be short like the pic above. It says that one should work hard in silence, no need to roam around and tell about the things you are doing. That will automatically be known when your success stories spread like the ripples in the water.

Apart from that the more silent you are more work would be done and sooner you will get success. :)

Lessons for Life #48

You might have heard a phrase :- "Be the change you want to see in the world". But beyond that there are other things we need to consider. This time too the pic says many things.

We all definitely want good persons to be around us. But the question we need to ask ourselves is "are we good too?" because we generally easily mingle and meet the persons who are like us. So if you want yourself to be surrounded by good people, be one too.

Common habit of people on earth is they talk a lot about the person's back to others and often that talk about is the things they dislike about them. This leads in the spoiling of that persons name in the eyes of those others. But people usually don't realize that they are too targeted the same way. So you want your image to be intact then stop saying those things to others, its none of your concern.

Likewise is the thing with mistakes and apologies. People usually think that seeking forgiveness is quite easy for others but they don't think its easy for them. You see "what goes around, comes around." If you forgive easily the mistakes of others you will get one soon for yours.

Human nature is usually not to love or accept all. But the thing is this is with all,  not you only. So if you want to be accepted then accept and love others. And try not to have motive, fear and judgement for/from others. I know that these are next to impossible. But as much close you can get to these characteristics the more pure and superior you become from others in this relative world.

This have been one of those long messages, time to end it. Bbye and have a great week ahead. :)

Lessons for Life #47

Now everyone of you might know how to read a graph as above. It simply shows what is the amount of the variable (here "value of something") with respect to time. So if you see the graph it depicts that before we get anything the value is high. It goes to low when we have it and again raises when we loose it.

The simple concept is that when we don't have it, we think of it as valuable. Take for example a friend. If we don't have any we think as if they are hell lot of important. But when we make one, we take them for granted and do not think of them as valuable part of our lives sometimes. But again if we loose them, we realize that how lucky we were to have them in our lives and why we didn't took them seriously.

This is true for not only friends but for each and everything. Friends were taken as example so that everyone could easily relate to them. :) So try and give value and importance to each thing/ everyone when you have it around you for you might loose it otherwise.

Have a great day and start looking for things you took for granted, there might be time for you to rectify before you loose it. :)

Random but Effective..

3 Beautiful Thoughtful Messages~

1) Do not count what you have lost. Just see what you have now, Because past never comes back, But sometimes future can give you back your lost things.

2) Always be the reason of someones happiness, Never be just a part of it. Be a part of someones sadness, But never be the reason for it!

3) "Life is like a FLUTE... It may have several holes and emptiness, But if we work on it, The same holes and emptiness produce Magical Melodies ...!!

Lessons for Life #46

You will find two types of people on earth. The ones who believe in God and others who don't. For the time being lets focus on the ones believing in God. These are somewhat or more religious. Prayers and worshiping are common things they practice.

Now everybody thinks that their prayers are not answered sometimes because they are not blessed by the things asked in prayers. But on the other hand people usually forget that they have a lot more and most of the things they have was not the result of prayers because they were just gifted without even asking.

So be thankful for what you already got even if sometimes your prayers are not answered. The reason being there is better coming up. Just keep your faith intact.

And for those not believing in God, I must say that you will sometime in near future experience something beyond the control of humans so as to develop your faith in the fact that God do exist and is present here for all. :)

Are you that patriotic..?

When foreigners are offered a permanent job at NASA, the condition is that they should apply for and get a US Citizenship. Arun. P.V. who hails from from Manimala in Kerala, got an invitation from the American space research center NASA to work as scientist there. He had completed his M.Tech from Bhopal NIT and after a stint at the renowned Bhabha Atomic Research Center, he completed a PhD at the Masachussetts Institute of Technology. While at the MIT, NASA Extended the invitation. Arun joined work on a fixed term contract. His exceptional caliber and genius led to an offer of a permanent position at NASA.

All other candidates who were invited by NASA for a permanent position, accepted US Citizenship, and joined NASA. However, Arun was adamant that he would not give up his Indian Citizenship for the job. His stand was that if that was the condition, he was more than willing to forego the offer from NASA. He informed NASA that he was willing to quit and return to India if his condition was not acceptable by NASA.

NASA and the US Government must have been very impressed by his patriotism as well as his scientific caliber from what happened afterwards. Arun, a very junior scientist, was included in a high level science and technology co-operation delegation from the US to India that arrived two weeks ago. It was renowned computer scientist Dr. Barbara Liskov, who was also on the delegation, who informed Home minister Rajnath Singh about the courageously patriotic stand that Arun had taken.

Rajnath Singh updated PM Narendra Modi about this, and the PM invited Arun to his official residence for a half hour chat. He told Arun that the doors to the Indian Space research programme will forever be open to him.

We Salute the patriotism of this True Indian. Hats off to you, Arun!!

Lessons for Life #45

We all know that nobody lives forever on this earth where all are mortal beings. So this means that we all will die eventually one day. What happens when one dies? Here I am not talking about the one who dies, but the ones who used to live with/around that person.

They all might miss that person and the only way they gonna feel that person is through his/her memories. Like everything has positive and negative sides, so has the memory, it can either be good or bad.

The memory depends on the deeds done by us while we live. So if we want to plant a good memory among others we ought to do good deeds and create positive vibes around us.

Try hard and be sure to be a good memory for others because we don't actually live on earth the time we spend here. But we live as long as others remember us. And this is the only means by the virtue of which one can be immortal.

So now, are you racing for the same?
Best of luck for that. :)

VALUE OF TIME

To realize the value of One Year,
Ask a Student who has Failed in his Examination.

To realize the value of One Month,
Ask a Mother who has given Birth to a Premature Baby.

To realize the value of One Week,
Ask an Editor of a Weekly.

To realize the value of One Day,
Ask a Daily Wage Laborer.

To realize the value of One Hour,

Ask the Lover who is Waiting to Meet.

To realize the value of One Minute,

Ask a Person who has Missed the Train.

To realize the value of One Second,

Ask a Person who has Survived an Accident.

To realize the value of One Milli-Second,

Ask a Person who has won Silver Medal in Olympics...

So time has its value even at the base level,
try and respect the time you get to live and make it worth living.

Lessons for Life #44

Miracles happen each day around the world. But many people think that it is god by the blessing of which miracles happen. But we forget the basic which says that god help those who help themselves.

So instead of waiting for the magic to happen by itself, start believing in yourself because the true potential in you is far greater then you think. And soon you will realize that it was not god but you in the first place who made possible that magic/miracle, god just helped you.

Believe in yourself and the world too will.

Lessons for Life #43

You know there are certain moments, events, thought etc. which have the potential to change the entire life. Our today's message is for that only. Many thoughts strike our minds daily but out of those many there are some which if analyzed more and worked upon can change our entire life for the better.

Therefore it is worth to spend some time alone and thinking about issues. Who knows the next thing that might cross your mind could change your entire life. :)

Lessons for Life #42

Now you might have seen this or heard this before already, but sometimes the things or lessons need to be reminded as they are completely forgotten.

This one says that you must begin something in order to have the possibility of having it done in near future. That's also related to the quote :- "Well begun is half done."

Have a great one. :)

Lessons for Life #41

I came across a quote few days back:- "The more knowledge you get, the less you speak". Now today's lesson is somewhat related to that. According to the pic above, Silence is the best reply to a fool for you cannot win an argument with a fool.

Also if you try too hard to argue with an idiot the people watching won't be able to tell the difference and identify if one or both are fool because both of you won't be accepting a loose in argument and it won't last.

Next time you try to start an argument with a fool remember that you might end up becoming one.

Lessons for Life #40

Being rich doesn't mean that you have a lot of money, big bank balance etc. There are other things as well that are a lot valuable but it doesn't need money to buy them. Can you name a few?

What about Friends? They are integral part of our lives but we don't need money to buy or make friends. Another is the Family. It also comes without money.

If you are not convinced by these then let me give you another example. The gods blessing are there for everyone. They are not filtered just for rich ones but everyone.

So next time you feel like you are not RICH, just remember the things you have that money can't buy. Evaluating those, you might end up feeling the richest person in the world for you have things that can't be compared or bought with money and are priceless.

Harinder Sikka's Interview (Nanak Shah Fakir)

In almost 600 years after Guru Nanak Dev Ji, there will be a movie about Guru Ji. Harinder Sikka is the producer of the movie. The idea of the movie came to Harinder when he was writing the book- Calling Sehmat about a kashmiri muslim woman. The movie is mostly directed in Mullanpur where the set was created similar to Talwandi, now known as Nanakana Sahib.

So gear up everyone, its going to be Huge.

The interview of Harinder Sikka (via Sangat Television) is in the link below:-

Ik Khaas Mulakaat with Harinder Singh Sikka on Nanak Shah Fakir

Have a great day and do watch this interview to know about his experiences while making the film. :)

Lessons for Life #39

Words of Wisdom gives us the next lesson. In today's world we often end up being the person others want us to. And we have been affected like this so much so, that its gonna take a long while before we discover ourselves all over again.

So from the above discussion you may think that what will our journey of life looks then. The answer is that may be journey will not be about becoming anything, may be there are other things to remove off first. Thus it will be more of a kind where we undo our part that was the result of others so that we get rid of all the things we don't really are.

If we follow up like this then in the end we will become what we were meant to be in the first place. Its like getting rid of all the negative stuff so that in the end only positivity will have the authority to be in us. :)

Monday 6 October 2014

A Moment

I watched a movie few days back- "The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift". Its an amazing movie with a moment where a character "HAN" says a line pretty good. He says "You know, who you choose to be around you, lets you know who you are."

If you mull it over sometime, then what do you get. It is correct, right?

Because they (the people we choose to be around us) are the ones who make us display our character. If it wasn't for them, then we might act differently ending up being a different person.

Lessons for Life #38

You know the saying:- "What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger" right? Well this one goes down the same lane. If a task is easy for us then it is too simple to change us in any way. And by change I mean to make us better.

On the other hand, if there is something that we struggle with, then it really help us to go to new horizons and find out something about us which in turn make us better in one way or the other.

So next time you face something difficult, be ready to change in a better way at the end of it and know the new you. :)

Have a great day.

Judgement of others...

Now you might not know him. He is "Pardeep Singh Bahra". He has a blog named "Singh Street Style". He is on FB as well. Today I read a post on his fb page. It was :-

"Let me tell you all something. Either way they're going to judge you anyway. So just do you. Don't stress over opinions of others, because their opinions don't put food on your plate, their opinions don't put a roof over your head. Your faith in God, yourself, hard work and positivity will look after you!"

Seems pretty correct, right...?
So don't make your mind clouded by the judgement of others, they shouldn't matter to you. :)

Lessons for Life #37

If life is a ocean then the moments we have in our lifetime accounts for the drops. So drops are necessary to make an ocean. Similarly life is composed of different moments. Life as a whole isn't perfect. But individual moments do.

So look for the perfect moments instead of a perfect life. Because these perfect moments make life worth living. :)

Lessons for Life #36

Everyone must be knowing him, "The Martin Luther King Jr". The pic is enough to say all this time again. Past cannot control us and let us from ruin our present and future. So don't think about it and keep moving forward regardless of the means i.e. you fly, run, walk or even crawl.

In the end you should definitely be moving forward. :)

Lessons for Life #35

Many dreams and actions die daily just because we think that what others will think and how they will respond or feel about our dreams or actions. We know that we can't control or change how they feel or think. So there is no use of trying to change their view.

Just get up and follow your dreams. If we think about what others will think about us, then what will they think. :P Its their work, let them worry about it. So don't be bothered about that. Live your life and be happy. :)

Lessons for Life #34

With blessings comes responsibilities. If you are blessed with something, it is probably not only for you but others as well. You see everything is conserved. If you are having something in abundant then there will be someone without it.

This is the basic idea for today's lesson. So try to learn sharing the things and giving them to others if you have extra. Probably you are just a means to get it to the needy and the part left over with you might be reward for your good doings. Think over it.

Keep Giving for true happiness lies with Sharing only. :)
