Happy New Year 2016

Wishing you and your family a great, prosperous, blissful, healthy, bright, delightful, energetic and extremely happy new year 2016. ๐Ÿ˜Š๐ŸŽ†๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽŠ

About the Average Sikh

They say that the average American does not know the difference between a Sikh and a Muslim. They tell me the average American associates a turban and a beard with ISIS, Taliban or Bin Laden. That's okay because the average Sikh does not have "fear" in their vocabulary.

We are not the victims of mistaken identity; we are in fact doing exactly what our identity was supposed to do. It was supposed to absorb hate and ignorance so others would not have to. See, you mistake us for something we are not, however, you do not know exactly who we are. Our heritage teaches us tolerance, to love the enemy and to protect even those we do not agree with. These seemingly progressive values -- of equality, freedom of religion, justice for all that you thought were American -- are actually something Sikhs have been living, and dying, for centuries over. Our history is full of examples of how Sikhs protected others before themselves, put humanity first and their own life last. We are taught from a very young age that our identity comes with responsibility; it will come with its own set of challenges, and we are in fact ready for anything and more your hate can dish out.

We have learned through our forefathers that hate does not last, and love and truth eventually overcome. You may feel big by attacking us, but with each blow you only strengthen our resolve. You have bullied our children in schools, attacked our places of worship all in your skewed misinformed and small view of the world. Yes, we look different but we are not foreign to this type of treatment. Everywhere a Sikh goes they know they stand out, they know their identity comes before all else that is presented about them, and even in the face of extreme intolerance they are willing to not reciprocate the hate but shower love instead.

You think if you intimidate us we will go running "back to our country" as you heckle commonly, however, we will not go back, but only dig our heals stronger to prove that not only are we not afraid but we have the resolve to overcome your anger. Our religion provides us the guidance in knowing there is no other, there is no difference, there is no better, there is only divine light which shines in all.

A Sikh's strength lies in their identity -- it goes hand in hand with their existence. You might use images of the media to shape your worldview through the bias lens, but we use spiritual power to shape our resolve. A Sikh will stay steadfast in a storm because we know the real battle does not rage externally rather internally is where the conquest really counts.

My hope is of a better America, where tolerance is not just a word that is thrown around, but actually practiced by every individual. Where diversity is not seen as a weakness but our core strength and what makes this nation great. Till then you will never see us hiding, the 'Average Sikh' will be out there with our turbans and beards easy to spot and ready for any challenge that may be presented.

Miracle at Sri Harmandir Sahib Ji in 1877

For those of us who've been to Darbaar Sahib Amritsar, we may have noticed a sign outside on the Darshani Deori that reads,

"It is for the knowledge of all that in Harimandir Sahib on April 30, 1877 at 4.30 in the morning, a strange thing happened. There were about four hundred devotees enjoying spiritual peace of celestial music in Harimandir Sahib when suddenly a flash of lighting was seen which in the form of a big resplendence entered through the door on the mountain-side and exploded exactly like a ball in front of Sri Guru Granth Sahib and illuminating everything went out, becoming a streak of light through the southern door--though at the time of its exploding there was a dreadful and forceful sound, no harm of any kind occurred to any devotee sitting inside and no harm to the building or anything else in the precinct. All the people described this supernatural scene as the wonderful doing of Sri Guru Ram Das himself."

This miracle transformed the Panth and brought it back from the brink of oblivion.

After the fall of the Sikh Kingdom in 1849, the Sikhs were in very serious trouble. The Gurdwaras were in control of Mahants who had installed Hindu Idols and barred "low castes" from entering. British observers wrote that Amrit Sinchaars almost never took place. Sikh women lost their distinct appearance and no longer followed rehit or took amrit. The British even began to photograph Sikhs as they believed this "fading sect" ought to be recorded in history and one day shown in museums as a part of India's history.

The British also started a heavy mission of conversion amongst the Sikhs. Many notable Sikhs left the faith at this time. Raja Ranjit Singh's general, Jowand Sikh Mokhal's family embraced Islam, Beharwala Sardar Isher Singh became Muslim under the influence of a prostitute, Harnam Singh of the Kapurthala Royal family became Christian, Dayal Singh Majithia became a Brahmo Samajist and gave over the Daily Tribune, Dayal Singh College and a Library to the sect.

Big Sikh landlords Mangal Singh Virk and Charat Singh of Barhar became Muslims for Muslim women as well. In 1873, 4 Sikh boys Aya Singh, Attar Singh, Sadhu Singh and Santokh Singh announced they were converting ot Christianity and prepared to cut their hair. Later they were convinced not to do this.

Harmandir Sahib was under the control of the British Government and they had appointed a Sikh manager, Mangal Singh to look after the site for them. The British had nefarious designs for the Sikhs. They intended to make Sree Darbaar Sahib the main Diocese for the Christian Church and convert the complex into a giant church. Crucifixes were even put near the entrance of Sree Darbaar Sahib near the foot-wash area.

Sardar Mangal Singh heard these rumours and despite being pro-British, felt very upset. He met with Punjab's Lt. Governor to ask about this issue and he did not give any reassurance but asked him to speak with the Viceroy.

The Viceroy was at this time in Gobind Garh fort in Amritsar. Sardar Mangal Singh went to meet him and was told that the British were lawfully entitled to own, manage and dispose of all property owned earlier by the Sikh regime. They could do as they wish in the future.

The Sikhs came out very dejected and sat in a Gurdwara trying to understand what to do. They decided to hold and Akhand Path Sahib in Darbaar Sahib and do Ardaas that the most precious place of the Sikhs would be saved.

The next day, the sangat gathered at Harmandir Sahib and Asa Di Vaar began. An intelligence officer sent by the Viceroy was also present to watch over the gathering. At 4.30AM, the ball of light entered and stopped in front of Guru Granth Sahib ji and then did as was described above. The Sangat began to repeat "Dhan Guru Ram Das!".

News of this event went all over Punjab. The hundreds of witnesses all gave their names as proof of this great miracle. The intelligence officer too was stunned and advised the British Government that any attempt to take over Darbaar Sahib would be wrong.

This incident was Guru Ram Das himself blessing the Sikhs. It showed the Sikhs that Guru was not far, but always watching over his Panth. At a time where amritdhari Singhs were almost extinct and Hindu ritual had taken hold in the Gurdwaras and Sikhs were converting away en masse, Guru Ram Das enacted this miracle and revived and awakened the Sikhs. The Gurdvara Reform Movement gathered steam, Singh Sabha Movement threw out the Hindu influences and again the Panth began to emerge and grow. The entire Panth rose up to save Sikhi. The Sikhs were saved from the brink of extinction.

In today's age, when again Sikhi is threatened by governments, and Sikh youth are confused and misguided, it is time for a Sikh Revival. It is up to us to save our Panth. And if we take the initiative, we should rest assured Guru Ji is watching us and will certainly give us victory.

May Guru Ji Bless us with Sikhi Sidak,
Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh.

Message for the Day

This is one of the sweet and best message I read today:-

1. No matter how beautiful and handsome you are, just remember Baboon and Gorillas also attract tourists: Stop Boasting.
2. No matter how big and strong you are, you will not carry yourself to your Grave: Be Humble!
3. No matter how tall you are, you can never see tomorrow: Be Patient!
4. No matter how Light Skinned you are, you will always need light in Darkness: Take Caution!
5. No matter how Rich and many Cars you have, you will always walk to Bed: Be Contented!

Take Life Easy. Life is "Exp. + Exp. + Exp."
Yesterday was Experience.
Today is Experiment.
Tomorrow is Expectation.

So, use your Experience in your Experiment to achieve your Expectations.

What Lesson We Learned After Shaheedi of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji

The Shaheedi of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji and the aftermath makes us realise how high duty to humanity and accountability sits in Sikh history. Guru Sahib and his 3 companions showed us accountability through sacrifice. This was followed by the bravery of Bhai Jetha and Bhai Lakhi Shah.

The lack of accountability of the Sikhs at Chandni Chowk led to the Dasmesh Pita formalising the Khalsa identity where there would no longer be any way for Sikhs to hide from their duty and forever remain accountable. A countless lineage of valiant Sikhs followed and till this day we see Sikhs forever ready to be accountable.
With such great legacies in our Panth, we must ask ourselves today how accountable are we as individuals and how many of us have that same sense of duty. Were we meant to be individuals who stand on the side lines waiting for others to take the lead? Were we meant to hide behind leaders, committees, parcharaks and others so that we can remain safe? Or were we meant to be the Bhai Jethas and Bhai Lakhi Shahs who risked their lives in order to recognise and safeguard their sense of duty.

Guru Sahib gave us the uniqueness to stand out in action and reaction. A gift we cannot afford to lose.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji at Haridwar

Realization of Offering Water to Ancestors at Haridwar.

Haridwar is one of the Hindu pilgrimages situated on the bank of river Ganges. As the sun comes out in the morning, people start throwing water with their hands towards the sun from the river. When Guru Nanak Dev Ji visited Haridwar, he asked the people as to what they were doing. A priest replied, “We are offering water to our dead ancestors in the region of Sun to quench their thirst.”

Upon this, the Guru started throwing water towards the west. The Hindu pilgrims were astonished and asked Guru Nanak about what he was doing. The Guru replied, “I am watering my fields in Punjab.” The priest asked, “How can your water reach such a distance?” The Guru retorted, “How far your ancestors are from here?” One of them replied, “In the other world.”

Guru Nanak Dev Ji stated, “If this water cannot reach my fields which are about four hundred miles away from here, how can your water reach your ancestors who are not even on this earth?” The crowd stood in dumb realization. Some of the listeners came to understand the point made by Guru Nanak Dev Ji. They realized that the water that they were throwing simply returned to the river and it is a fake belief that it could reach their ancestors.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji preached against superstitions, false rituals, worship of demi-gods and goddesses. He stressed that only One God, the Formless, is to be glorified. In this way, he showed the path of truth and enlightenment.

There is a Gurdwara called Nanakwara in Haridwar on the bank of the river Ganges where Guru Nanak Dev Ji stayed on his visit to Haridwar.

Prime Minister of Canada's Statement on the Gurpurab

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, issued the following statement today to mark the anniversary of the birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, founder of the Sikh faith:

“Sophie and I offer our warmest of wishes to everyone in Canada – and around the world – celebrating the birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The values of the faith he taught – love, compassion, serving humanity and the community – are evident every day in Sikh families and communities across Canada."

“I have been fortunate enough to visit many communities from coast to coast to coast, and I have seen first-hand just how much Sikh Canadians continue to contribute to Canada’s rich culture and heritage. Their story, and the story of Guru Nanak, serve as an important reminder that we are stronger not in spite of our differences, but because of them."

“Once again I wish all those celebrating the birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji a peaceful and joyous day.”

Billions in Change

The world is facing some huge problems. There’s a lot of talk about how to solve them. But talk doesn’t reduce pollution, or grow food, or heal the sick. That takes doing. This film is the story about a group of doers, the elegantly simple inventions they have made to change the lives of billions of people, and the unconventional billionaire spearheading the project.

Here's the link for the movie:

Law of the Garbage Truck

One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport. We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded and missed the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. I mean, he was really friendly.

So I asked, 'Why did you just do that? This guy could almost ruin your car and sent us to the hospital!' This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call, 'Law of the Garbage Truck'. He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointments. As and when their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they'll dump it on you.

Don't take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Don't take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets. The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day. Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, So Love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones who don't.

Life is 10% what you make it.
AND 90% how you take it!
Have a garbage-free Life. :)

In the end We Are Humans

In an ancient temple, a number of pigeons lived happily on roof top. When the renovation of the temple began for the annual temple feast the pigeons relocated themselves to a Church nearby. The existing pigeons in the Church accommodated the new comers very well. Christmas was nearing and the Church was given a facelift, all the pigeons had to move out and look for another place. They were fortunate to find a place in a Mosque nearby, The pigeons in the Mosque welcomed them happily. It was Ramadan time and the Mosque was repainted, All the pigeons now came to the same ancient temple.

One day the pigeons on top found some communal clashes below in a market square. The baby pigeon asked the mother pigeon "Who are these people?" The mother replied; they are "Human beings". The baby asked, But why are they fighting with each other? The mother said "These human beings going to temple are called 'Hindus' and the people going to Church are called 'Christians' and the people going to Mosque are called 'Muslims'.

The Baby pigeon asked, "Why is it so? When we were in the Temple we were called Pigeons, when we were in the church we were called Pigeons and when we were in the Mosque, we were called Pigeons. Similarly they should be called just 'Human beings' wherever they go"?

The mother Pigeon said, "You and me and our Pigeon friends have experienced God and that's why we are living here in a highly elevated place peacefully. These people are yet to experience God. Hence they are living below us and fighting and killing each other."

Be like Pigeons.

Courage to get back Up

An Important Message:

Baby giraffes never go to school. But they learn a very important lesson rather early in life. A lesson that all of us would do well to remember.

The birth of a baby giraffe is quite an earth-shaking event. The baby falls from its mother's womb, some eight feet above the ground. It shrivels up and lies still, too weak to move. The mother giraffe lovingly lowers her neck to smooch the baby giraffe. And then something unbelievable happens. She lifts her long leg and kicks the baby giraffe, sending it flying up in the air and tumbling down on the ground.

As the baby lies curled up, the mother kicks the baby again and again until the baby giraffe, still trembling and tired, pushes its limbs and for the first time learns to stand on its feet. Happy to see the baby standing on its own feet, the mother giraffe comes over and gives it yet another kick. The baby giraffe falls one more time, but now quickly recovers and stands up. Mama Giraffe is delighted. She knows that her baby has learnt an important lesson:

Never mind how hard you fall, always remember to pick yourself up and get back on your feet. Why does the mother giraffe do this? She knows that lions and leopards love giraffe meat. So unless the baby giraffe quickly learns to stand and run with the pack, it will have no chance of survival.

Most of us though are not quite as lucky as baby giraffes. No one teaches us to stand up every time we fall. When we fail, when we are down, we just give up. No one kicks us out of our comfort zone to remind us that to survive and succeed, we need to learn to get back on our feet.

This message is to everyone who hasn't given up and those who will always have the courage to get back, dust everything off and starts again.

Who is Happy?

This time instead of reading through the post, lets have a look a series of these pics. They will take you through an important life lesson.

So I hope you liked this different post. Good Bye until next.

Be Happy

Once an unhappy man was about to commit suicide. At the last moment, a stranger, who looked like a saint, stopped him and asked, "What are you going to do?" The man replied, "I am too poor to eat. I have nothing in this world I prefer death over poverty."

The saint told him that if he really wanted to die then he could help him(the saint). The saint said, "I need a pair of eyes. If you donate your eyes to me, I'll give you 10 million bucks."

"I'm not a fool."retorted the man. The saint tried to convince him again. "What would you do with your eyes after death, give them to me. You need the money," said the saint.

When the man didn't agree, he said, "Alright, give me your ears and lungs and I'll give you 20 million bucks."

The man refused the offer and so it went on. Angered, the man asked, "Do you think I am a fool who would give you my priceless body parts for money?"

The saint smiled and replied, "If you have such a priceless body, how can you claim to have nothing in the world?" The man had no words, and finally understood the difference between being rich and poor.

We always complain to god for what we don't have, and never appreciate what he gives us. He never seeks interest or rent for his blessings.

We never have to pay for his gifts, but even then we are often sad for the want of small things. This is the reason human beings suffer all their lives. Those who believe in god and thank him for whatever little he gives to them are the ones who always stay happy.

Never Quit

Here's the story of a man who :
Failed in Business at the age of 21,
Was defeated in a Legislative race at age 22,
Failed again in Business at age 24,
Overcame the death of his sweetheart at age 26,
Had a nervous breakdown at age 27,
Lost a Congressional race at age 34,
Lost a Senatorial race at age 45,
Failed in an effort to become the Vice President at age 47,
Lost a Senatorial race at age 49 and

Was elected President of the United States at age 52.

This man was Abraham Lincoln. He could have quit, but he didn't. To Lincoln, Failure was a step towards Success. Winners are not people who never fail, but people who never Quit!

Shah Rukh Khan's Words

The University of Edinburgh honored Shah Rukh Khan with a doctorate recently. Of course, the king of wits delivered a speech for his fans across the world and it was definitely something! Shah Rukh Khan really stunned us all with his well prepared, insightful speech on things he learnt in life from working in Bollywood films. Take a look at the 20 best things he had to say!

1. All the names you give yourself are just labels. You aren’t defined by them. What defines you is ‘your heart’.
2. Being brave means being shit scared all the way to the party but getting there and doing the 'Funky Chicken' in front of all your teenage kid's friends anyway. Don't let your fears become boxes that enclose you. Open them out, feel them and turn them into the greatest courage you are capable of. I promise you, nothing will go wrong. But if you live by your fears, everything that can possibly go wrong will go wrong and you won't even have done the 'Funky Chicken'.
3. It's OK to be confused. Confusion is the route to all the clarity in the world.
4. If you can't find a resolution easily, don't panic. Even disaster eventually dissolves. You don't have to figure things out.
5. Stop whining and start moving. Don't attach yourself to sadness or happiness. Laugh at yourself. Shed a tear or two.
6. There's no such thing as 'normal'. That's just another word for lifeless. Madness (of the particularly nice/romantic kind) is an absolute prerequisite to a happy and successful life. Don't ever treat your little insanities as if they are aberrations that ought to be hidden from the rest of the world. All the most beautiful people in the world, the most creative, the ones who led revolutions, who discovered and invented things, did so because they embraced their own idiosyncrasies.
7. Don't become a philosopher before you become rich.
8. Art is more important than the artist - have no attachment to your own art - it's regressive, move on.
9. Study hard. Work hard. Play harder. Don't be bound by rules, don't hurt anybody and never ever live somebody Else's dream.
10. Live now, live today--don't be bound by rules, live your own dream.
11. Hindi filmon ki tarah life mein bhi, anth mein sab kuch theek ho jaata hai. Aur agar na ho, toh woh anth nahi hai...picture abhi baaki hai mere doston.
12. If you aren't charged up about doing something, if you don't have what in Hindi we call the "Josh", the fire in your belly for it, then don't do it.
13. If you ever find yourself cheated of all your money and sleeping on a grave, do not fear, a miracle is near, either that or a ghost.  In other words, no matter how bad it gets, life IS the miracle you are searching for. There is no other one around the corner. Develop the faith in it to let it take its own course, make all the effort you can to abide by its beauty and it will not let you down. Use every resource you have been given, your mental faculties, the ability of your heart to love and feel for those around you, your health and good fortune: all of the thousands of gifts life has given you to their maximum potential. Honor your life. Honor each gift and each moment by not laying it to waste. There is no real measure of success in this world except the ability to make good of life’s endowments to you.
14. Don’t let your fears become boxes that enclose you. Open them out, feel them and turn them into the greatest courage you are capable of. I promise you, nothing will go wrong.
15. All the planning in the world, won’t take you where you want to get to. It’s fine not to know what you want to be twenty years from now. Most of those who had it all figured out became bankers anyway.
16. Our values are our values, they don’t make us any better than anyone else, at best they make us different. Always try to see the other person’s truth because like every movie has a story, every human being has one too and you have no right to imagine that yours is better than anyone else’s.
17. Give of yourself to others. And while you’re at it, make sure you realize that you aren’t doing anyone any favors by being kind. It’s all just to make you feel that sneaky little twinge that comes from being utterly pleased with yourself.
18. An act of goodness becomes worthless when you assign a brownie point to yourself for it, no matter how subtly you allow yourself to do so. Regardless of how rich, successful and famous you become, don’t ever underestimate the grace that other people bestow upon you just by being the recipients of your kindnesses. You might be able to buy your friend a Rolls for his/her birthday but it’s no substitute for a patient hearing of your sulky rants on a bad hair day.
19. Don’t forget where you came from and who you really are. It ought to be the compass by which you navigate through life’s vicissitudes. The North that keeps you oriented despite a series of misfortunes or a shower of privilege.
20. Embrace all that this life has in store for you, let your heart be as deep as the deepest ocean and as wide as the farthest horizon. Know that it is limitless. Love is not an excuse to grab or to hold or to own or to barter. It is the only excuse you will ever have to call yourself special. And if someone you love lets you down, don’t fault yourself for not trusting him, fault yourself for not trusting your love enough to forgive his/her trespasses.

Some of these lessons will definitely help you in your life I guess.
Stay Alive, Stay Happy. Until next time.!!

Gratefulness

A famous writer was in his study room. He picked up his pen and started writing:

Last year, I had a surgery and my gall bladder was removed. I had to stay stuck to the bed due to this surgery for a long time. The same year I reached the age of 60 years and had to give up my favourite job. I had spent 30 years of my life in this publishing company. The same year I experienced the sorrow of the death of my father. And in the same year my son failed in his medical exam because he had a car accident. He had to stay in bed at hospital with the cast on for several days. The destruction of car was another loss.

At the end he wrote: Alas! It was such bad year!!

When the writer's wife entered the room, she found he husband looking sad lost in his thoughts. From behind his back she read what was written on the paper. She left the room silently and came back with another paper and placed it on side of her husband's writing. When the writer saw this paper, he found this written on it:

Last year I finally got rid of my gall bladder due to which I had spent years in pain. I turned 60 with sound health and got retired from my job. Now I can utilize my time to write something better with more focus and peace. The same year my father, at the age of 95, without depending on anyone or without any critical condition met his Creator. The same year, God blessed my son with a new life. My car was destroyed but my son stayed alive without getting any disability.

At the end she wrote: This year was an immense blessing of God and it passed well!!

In daily lives we must see that its not happiness that makes us grateful but gratefulness that makes us happy.

Be Humble

Worth reading.
Dilip Kumar himself narrated this incident.

At his peak, the star was traveling by plane. The passenger sitting next was elderly. Dressed in a very simple shirt and pant, his apparel projected a middle class. He appeared well educated. Passengers on the aircraft snatched glances of the renowned Dilip Kumar. Yet, the gentleman appeared unconcerned. He read his newspaper, then looked out of the window.

When tea came, he sipped it without any notice of Dilip Kumar who sat with him. It made Dilip Kumar uneasy. Trying to strike a conversation, he smiled. The courteous man smiled back and said hello. Dilip somehow brought the subject to films and asked, "Do you watch films?" The man replied, "Oh, very few. I did see one many years ago".

Dilip casually mentioned that he himself worked in films. Man; "Oh, that's nice. What do you do?" Dilip Kumar; "I am a film actor" Man; "Oh, wonderful?" There was no further response. When the flight landed and both stood up, Dilip Kumar held out his hand, "It was good to travel with you. By the way, my name is Dilip Kumar". The man shook hand and smiled, "Thank you. I am J.R.D. Tata"

For all who think that he/she is big, there is always someone bigger.
Be humble. It costs nothing.

84 JapJi Sahib Paaths at Goindwal Sahib

A man keen to learn about Sikhi and enlighten by the Sikh religion came to Punjab to understand the faith better. Reportedly, he’s been touring several historic sites and learning about Sikh history. In one of his visits to a Gurdwara Sahib, he did 84 Japji Sahib Paaths at Gurdwara Sahib Goindwal.

The man received immense respect from people on social networks. One person stated he lived just a few blocks away from the Gurdwara but never even done 1 Japji Sahib Paath. However, the man was inspired after looking at the picture of the English man and has decided to come back to Sikhi.
The task of reciting Jap Ji Sahib at each of the 84 steps can be very exhausting and depending on speed of reading can take around 24 hours to complete for slow readers and about 12 hours for faster readers. However, those who have JapJi Sahib Khant/memorized can do it at a much faster time.

The Gurdwara at Goindwal is called Sri Baoli Sahib. It is a large, open well, 8 metres across. Its water level is reached through a covered passage comprising a flight of 84 steps. A wide pointed archway opens on a domed clearance, four steps below the ground level. Its cupola is painted with multicoloured floral designs and portraits of Guru Amar Das, Guru Ram Das, Guru Hargobind and Guru Gobind Singh Ji.
The man has appeared to inspire a number of persons born into the Sikh faith but who don’t practice. After seeing a foreign person learning about their faith, they understand the importance.

The 99 Club

Once upon a time, there lived a King who, despite his luxurious lifestyle, was not happy at all.

One day, the King came upon a servant who was singing happily while he worked. This fascinated the King; Why was he, the Supreme Ruler of the Land, unhappy and gloomy, while a lowly servant had so much joy? The King asked the servant, 'Why are you so happy?'

The man replied, 'Your Majesty, I am nothing but a servant, but my family and I don't need too much - just a roof over our heads and warm food to fill our tummies.' The king sought the advice of his most trusted advisor. After hearing the story, the advisor said, 'Your Majesty, the servant has not yet joined "The 99 Club".'

'The 99 Club? And what is that?' the King inquired. The advisor replied, 'To truly know what The 99 Club is, just place 99 Gold coins in a bag and leave it at this servant's doorstep.' When the servant saw the bag, he let out a great shout of joy, so many gold coins. He began to count them. After several counts, he was at last convinced that there were only 99 coins.

He wondered, 'What could've happened to that last gold coin? Surely, no one would leave 99 coins!' He looked everywhere, but that final coin was elusive. Finally he decided that he was going to work harder than ever to earn that 100th gold coin.

From that day, the servant was a changed man. He was overworked, grumpy, and blamed his family for not helping him make that 100th gold coin. And he had stopped singing while he worked.

Witnessing this drastic transformation, the King was puzzled. The advisor said, 'Your Majesty, the servant has now officially joined The 99 Club.' He continued, 'The 99 Club is a name given to those people who have enough to be happy but are never content, because they're always wanting that extra 1, saying to themselves: "Let me get that one final thing and then I will be happy for life."

We can be happy with very little in our lives, but the minute we're given something bigger and better, we want more and even more! We lose our sleep, our happiness, as the price for our growing needs and desires.

That's "The 99 Club". Zero Membership fee to enter, but you pay for it with your entire life!!

Cockroach Theory - A beautiful speech by Sundar Pichai

The cockroach theory for self development:-

At a restaurant, a cockroach suddenly flew from somewhere and sat on a lady. She started screaming out of fear. With a panic stricken face and trembling voice, she started jumping, with both her hands desperately trying to get rid of the cockroach.

Her reaction was contagious, as everyone in her group also got panicky. The lady finally managed to push the cockroach away but it landed on another lady in the group. Now, it was the turn of the other lady in the group to continue the drama.

The waiter rushed forward to their rescue. In the relay of throwing, the cockroach next fell upon the waiter. The waiter stood firm, composed himself and observed the behavior of the cockroach on his shirt. When he was confident enough, he grabbed it with his fingers and threw it out of the restaurant. Sipping my coffee and watching the amusement, the antenna of my mind picked up a few thoughts and started wondering, was the cockroach responsible for their histrionic behavior? If so, then why was the waiter not disturbed?

He handled it near to perfection, without any chaos. It is not the cockroach, but the inability of those people to handle the disturbance caused by the cockroach, that disturbed the ladies.

I realized that, it is not the shouting of my father or my boss or my wife that disturbs me, but it's my inability to handle the disturbances caused by their shouting that disturbs me. It's not the traffic jams on the road that disturbs me, but my inability to handle the disturbance caused by the traffic jam that disturbs me.

More than the problem, it's my reaction to the problem that creates chaos in my life.

Lessons learnt from the story: I understood, I should not react in life. I should always respond. The women reacted, whereas the waiter responded. Reactions are always instinctive whereas responses are always well thought of.

A beautiful way to understand LIFE.
Person who is HAPPY is not because Everything is RIGHT in his Life.
He is HAPPY because his Attitude towards Everything in his Life is Right..!!

8 Things To Know If You Have No Clue What You're Doing In Life

We love complicating life, don’t we? Constantly comparing ourselves to people, underestimating ourselves and feeling low for no apparent reason. If you feel you’re not doing anything worthwhile in life, let us tell you why it is perfectly fine. This is all the motivation you need for today.

1. People around you may make you feel getting that ‘dream job’ is the ultimate aim in life, but that’s not how it works for a lot of people. Career isn’t everybody’s priority in life. Some people want to rule the world. And some people just want to earn enough to lead a comfortable life and focus on their inter-personal relationships, find true love. So, take it easy. Find what excites you – it doesn’t have to be a ‘career’.

2. It takes some people a moment to realize what their calling is. Some people need months, some people need years and some people, a whole lifetime. But the search is always worth it. Your life is your own story, different from everybody else’s. So, keep looking and believe that life is leading you where your heart belongs.

3. Don’t fret too much about the future. Plans never work. The ‘long run’ is a myth, it only exists in your head. Just do what you want to do right now and you’ll be good. Every road will lead you somewhere.

4. You will find yourself at crossroads several times, wondering how you suddenly feel so disconnected with something that felt ‘so right’ at one point in life, how what you always wanted to do in life doesn’t make you happy anymore. And that’s okay – happens to most of us. People change, people evolve. Accept that your interests have changed and stop hating yourself for it.

5. There is no urgency to find out the one true passion in your life. Who says you should know what you want to do by the time you’re in your late twenties? Don’t rush it because you think you’re running out of time. About sustaining yourself, you can always take up a job you don’t really hate and live a comfortable life, while exploring your interests. And, who knows you might just find your true passion one day when you’re least expecting it.

6. Maybe, the idea of ‘one true passion’ doesn’t even exist for some people. Everybody is wired differently. There are lot of people who want to do everything but cannot stay at one place for too long. And there’s nothing wrong with that. Some people just want to wander – from one place to another, from one passion to another. The idea is to be happy doing what you do. So, whatever sails your boat! Don’t think of how long your interest is going to last for. If something interests you now, it is worth taking up. If it makes you happy, go for it. If you’ve lived every day of your life happily, there can be nothing greater than that.

7. Not knowing what you’re doing with your life should never make you feel ashamed. Don’t feel bad because you don’t know yet, feel happy that there is something to look forward to in life. Imagine what it would be like to finally find the purpose of your existence!

8. It will always feel like you don’t have a clue about what you’re doing, where you’re heading, even if you’re on the right track. This how it’s supposed to be. This is how life is. It will never let you feel at ease, never let you have the assurance that you have it all sorted and that’s the beauty of it. Life has it’s own ways of surprising you. Embrace the unpredictability.

These are great qualities that they must work towards. This is my message to the young people.

Hari Singh Got the Name of “Nalwa”

At the age of 14 he was only with the Maharaja for a few months when one day he was asked to accompany the Maharaja for a hunt.

As they entered the forest, suddenly a man eating lion jumped on him and threw him on the ground.
Hari Singh was completely caught unaware and did not even have the opportunity to draw his sword. But he got hold of the jaw of the lion and with great force flung the lion away, and withdrawing his sword, with one blow severed the lion’s head. The Maharaja and the other courtiers were extraordinarily amazed at this feat.

From that day onwards Hari Singh was given the appellation of “Nalwa” by the Maharaja, who acknowledged that Hari Singh had killed the lion similar to the way King Nall used to hunt (King Nall was a very brave king and was known for his audacity to kill lions and other dangerous animals with his bare hands, and hence the Maharaja adorned Hari Singh with that title i.e. “Nall-wa”- ‘like Nall’ )

Sardar Hari Singh Nalwa and Bibi Bano

Part 1

Part 2

During the times of Sher-e-Panjab, Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the Sikh Raaj (kingdom) stretched from the Sutlej River to Kabul (in Afghanistan). Raja Ranjit Singh's key general was Sardar Hari Singh Nalwa, who was a Rehatvan (strictly observant) Sikh of the Guru.

Once, when Hari Singh Nalwa had set up camp with his army in Jamrud in Afghanistan, a local Muslim woman called 'Bano' had watched the Sikhs set up camp. She found Hari Singh Nalwa very handsome and attractive, and had the thought that the commander of the Sikhs would be a fine man by which to have a child, hopefully a son.

One day, Bano came to see the General who was sitting in his tent. When his guards told him that he had a local woman who wished to see him, not knowing who this lady was or what she wanted, Hari Singh gave permission for her to enter his tent. Bano said, "I have heard of the Sikhs. You are remarkable people. I have been watching you from a distance. I am not married and have no children, but I desire to have a son who is like you."

Hari Singh, not understanding the motivation or intention of Bano said, "May Waheguru bless you that you may have a son with the qualities of a Sikh." Bano irritably said, "No I want to have a son with you Sardar Ji." Hari Singh Nalwa replied, "O sister! I am already married. I am sorry I cannot marry you or give you what you want."

Bano's eyes welled up with tears of disappointment. About to leave, she said, "I had heard your Guru Nanak was great and that no one leaves empty handed from Guru Nanak's House, but today I am being turned away without the wish of a son being fulfilled."

Hari Singh Nalwa, a true example of a Sikh of the Guru, replied, "It is true that no one goes empty handed from Guru Nanak's House. I cannot give you a son, but if you desire a son who is like me, then instead if you accept, from now on I will be your son, and I will consider you my mother." Bano was shocked and overwhelmed by Hari Singh Nalwa's sincerity, high moral character and faith in the Guru. She said, "I had heard that Sikhs of the Guru are great honorable people, but today I have witnessed it with my own eyes".

From that day on Hari Singh Nalwa addressed Begum Bano as "Maa" (Mother) and she addressed Hari Singh as "Putar" (Son).

How God Answers our Prayers

Dr. Ahmed, a well-known cancer specialist, was once on his way to an important conference in another city where he was going to be granted an award in the field of medical research. He was very excited to attend the conference and was desperate to reach as soon as possible. He had worked long and hard on his research and felt his efforts deserved the award he was about to obtain.

However, two hours after the plane took off, the plane made an emergency landing at the nearest airport due to some technical snag. Afraid, that he wouldn't make it in time for the conference, Dr. Ahmed immediately went to the reception and found that next flight to the destination was after ten hours. The receptionist suggested him to rent a car and drive himself down to the conference city which was only four hours away.

Having no other choice, he agreed to the idea despite his hatred for driving long distances. Dr. Ahmed rented a car and started his journey. However, soon after he left, the weather suddenly changed and a heavy storm began. The pouring rain made it very difficult for him to see and he missed a turn he was supposed to take.

After two hours of driving, he was convinced he was lost. Driving in the heavy rain on a deserted road, feeling hungry and tired, he frantically began to look for any sign of civilization. After some time, he finally came across a small tattered house. Desperate, he got out of the car and knocked on the door. A beautiful lady opened the door. He explained the matter and asked her if he could use her telephone.

However, the lady told him that she doesn't have a phone or any electronic gadget but told the doctor that if could come inside till weather improves. Hungry, wet and exhausted, the doctor accepted her kind offer and walked in. The lady  gave him hot tea and something to eat. The lady told him that he can join her for prayers for which dr Ahmed smiled and said that he believe in hard work only and told her to continue with her prayers.

Sitting on the table and  sipping the tea, the doctor watched the woman in the dim light of candles as she prayed next to what appeared to be a small baby crib. Every time she finished a prayer, she would start another one. Feeling that the woman might be in need of help, the doctor seized the opportunity to speak as soon as she finished her prayers. The doctor asked her what exactly she wants from the God and inquired if God will ever listen or listen to her prayers. He further asked about the small child in the crib for whom she was apparently making a lot of prayers.

The lady gave a sad smile and said that the child in the crib is his son who is suffering from a rare type of cancer and there is only one doctor Ahmed who can cure him but she doesn't have money to afford his fee and moreover Dr Ahmed lives in another far off town. She said that God has not answered her prayer so far but said that God will create some way out one day and added that she will not allow her fears to overcome her faith.

Stunned and speechless Dr Ahmed was in tears which were rolling down his cheeks. He whispered, God is great and recollected sequence of events: there was malfunction in the plane, a thunderstorm hit, and he lost his way; and all of this happened because God did not just answered her prayer but also gave him a chance to come out of materialistic world and give some time to the poor helpless people who have nothing but rich prayers.

We should always remember five important steps in our daily life:
1)Ask  2)Believe  3)Receive  4)Faith  5)Giving

The Pursuit of Happiness

This will make your day! Worth a read!
Once a group of 500 people were attending a seminar. Suddenly the speaker stopped and decided to do a group activity. He started giving each person a balloon. Each person was then asked to write their name on it using a marker pen. Then all the balloons were collected and put in another room.
The people were then let into that room and asked to find the balloon which had their name written on it within 5 minutes. Everyone was frantically searching for their name, colliding with each other, pushing around others and there was utter chaos.

At the end of 5 minutes no one could find their own balloon. Then, the speaker asked each person to randomly collect a balloon and give it to the person whose name was written on it. Within minutes everyone had their own balloon.

The speaker then began, "This is happening in our lives. Everyone is frantically looking for happiness all around, not knowing where it is. Our happiness lies in the happiness of other people. Give them their happiness; you will get your own happiness. And this is the purpose of human life. The pursuit of happiness.

When you have a good heart

When you have a good heart: You help too much, you trust too much, you give too much, you love too much and it always seems like you’re the one who gets hurt the most. An example of such a person is who has a problem of saying NO straight away. These kind of people always end up helping others no matter what.

Since these people are available so easily, they are always taken for granted and their worth is next to nothing. If you feel associated with these things. You are probably one of those with a good heart. Now to deal with these things you can do two things, first is that you keep going this way and adapt yourself such that you are not affected by others even they treat you like nothing. The second way is to be bold and stand up for your self so that others may realize your real worth.

Lessons for Life #88

Very often people usually tells us what to do in our life and these include things like misguided opinions, criticism about our current situation among others. These things may make us angry. But always remember that if we respond to them then its a kind of acknowledging them which is a waste of our time.

The best way however is walking away from these kind of people and this is a part of standing up for yourself. We don't need to react to every person who looks at us. Sometimes its better to just let it go.

Lessons for Life #87

Lets start with a story..

Once 100 tiny frogs started a race to climb a 99 ft high tower. People gathered around to watch the race. As the race started people started saying: "These tiny creatures can never make it." After climbing 1/4th of tower, few frogs fell down. People kept saying and frogs kept falling. After climbing 3/4th of the tower, all frogs fell down except one. And finally that frog made it.

Guess what was the reason? "He was deaf and couldn't listen to the people."
Moral: "Dont let people distract your dreams".

So I guess short story explains it all. People will always talk about others and that too to demotivate them in any way possible. Just give in your best shot without thinking what others say or think about you.

Keep this thought with you and you will go a long way. :)

Make In India

Make in India’ is an initiative that was started back in September 2014 by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. The primary objective of this initiative is to create manufacturing firms within India to create more job opportunities and enhance the skills of the people of India across different sectors like automobile, aviation, biotechnology, defence manufacturing, mining, oil and gas, ports, railways, textile and much more. With this initiative, the Government of India hopes to bring in high-quality standards and minimise the impact on the environment.

Many companies are in support of the Make in India campaign. Companies from China like Alibaba and Xiaomi showed their full backing for the project. Alibaba Chairman said, “We are excited about India. We are excited about Make in India and Digital India.” Xiaomi President Lin Bin too, showed his support and stated, “We have some big plans for India. We fully support Make in India.”

In response to the Make in India call, The United Kingdom announced in January, about its campaign to forge collaborations with Indian companies. Dubbed as the ‘Great Collaboration’, it will be the first partnership between UK’s BP Petroleum company and India’s Reliance Industries Limited for developing and producing energy. The UK and the Indian Prime Ministers have already appreciated the financial ties between the two countries.

Many companies have started putting up manufacturing houses in India. Celkon, one of the leading cellphone players, is right now in the planning process of setting up its manufacturing firm in Medchal, Telangana. IT Minister, KT Rama Rao, said the manufacturing business unit will be set up within a few days after June and will begin with four production lines, and will eventually increase its capacity to higher levels.

Similarly, Foxconn Technology, who is one of the world’s largest contract makers of electronic products, is trying to develop 10-12 facilities in India, including factories by 2020. The Taiwan-based tech giant said that the company is in talks to manufacture Apple iPhones in India. This could lower the price on the world’s No.3 smartphone market where the US firm trails Samsung Electronics and local players.

Mercedes-Benz will be doubling its annual capacity in India to 20,000 units, thanks to the Make in India project. India will also be the first market to receive the GLA entry SUV outside of Germany.

“India is one of the focus markets for Mercedes-Benz internationally, and with the addition of a new plant, we are getting future ready,” said company India MD & CEO Eberhard Kern. The plant was inaugurated by Maharastra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union environment minister Prakash Javadekar. With the addition of the GLA SUV to the assembly line, the company now makes six models locally which include C-, E-, S-Class sedans and the ML- and GL-Class SUVs. The CLA entry sedan will be added to the local assembly list later this year while the A- and B-Class models come in after that.

On a smaller scale, Amity scientists have developed a 100% safe, pure and indigenous herbal colours with absolutely no synthetic or harmful additives, in a bid to contribute towards Modi’s ‘Make in India’ initiative. “The herbal colours indigenously produced at Amity, when used extensively in all the industries, will herald a revolution in the country, which is reeling under the pressure of products loaded with synthetic components and chemicals,” said Harsha Kharkwal, faculty at Amity University.

In February 2015, Huawei opened a new research and development (R&D) campus in Bengaluru. It had invested $170 million to establish the research and development centre. In February 2015, Hitachi said it was committed to the initiative. It said that it would raise its employees in India from 10,000 to 13,000, and it would try to boost its revenues from India from ¥100 billion in 2013 to ¥210 billion. It said that an auto component plant will be set up in Chennai in 2016.

This initiative looks very promising. It is understandable that many more companies will join in, soon. This can create a lot of job opportunities here in India and improve the economic well-being of its masses.

India is going over a lot of change. Pretty much like a new make-over. Let us see how the campaign shapes up in the future.

Power of "Mool Mantar"

Story of “General Ayub Khan, former President of Pakistan”

“I used to study at a place name Aibtabaad. I used to get the beatings from teacher (Maulvi) everyday as I was the weakest student of my class. One day I became determined that I will not go to school. Halfway to school there was a Gurdwara Sahib. I would go inside the Gurdwara Sahib to hide away. The Baba jee (main sevadaar) of the Gurdwara Sahib knew me very well."

He asked me
“O Yubeyaa! Isn’t it your school time? What are you doing here?”
I replied,
“I don’t want to go to school because the teacher scolds and beats me everyday. I can’t bear it any more. I don’t want to go to school.”

He took me under his lap and said me,
“Yubeyaa! I assure you, you will never ever get the beating from your teacher any more, but in return you will have to follow my instructions.” He told me that whenever I go to school I should just keep reciting this holy Mool mantar. I followed his instructions. I went to the school reciting the “Mool Mantar”.

It was the first day in my school when I was spared from the beatings and scoldings of the teacher. I followed it everyday. Whenever I used to go to school I used to recite this holy Kalaam (Word of God) and after that I was never beaten by any teacher in the school. Then exams arrived, so I went to the same Baba jee at the Gurdwara Sahib and said, “Baba jee, I want to get good marks in the exam, tell me what should I do?” The Baba jee replied ,”Never leave the Holy Word of Guru Nanak (referring to the Mool Mantar) you will reach any position you wish.”

It’s because of this Kalaam (Holy Word) of Guru Nanak Sahib that I have reached the position of president today. At Ayub Khan’s Home in Drawing Hall You can see On the wall “painting of the Mool Mantar (the opening verse of Sri Guru Granth Sahib jee) in Urdu and Panjabi”

Lessons for Life #86

Everyone on this earth can't be perfect. You will get this line if you have seen one of my recent posts in defense of being average. Each one of us is busy trying to be best for the world. But we forget the fact that most of the people on earth are average.

Being average is not a bad thing. It's okay. And its far better if you can make your parents happy while being average. You don't need to prove to the world that you are best, you just need to make your parents proud of you for what you are doing even being an average person.

Sometimes we make them proud of ourselves just by accomplishing small things and we don't even realize that they are proud of us because of the fact that we think small accomplishments don't count much.

If your parents are proud of you and you are blessed by them, that's the thing which should matter you the most. There's a reason parents are considered next to God or even sometimes more than God. So next time you wanna do something, do it for making your parents happy and not the world.

The Blame Game

Worth a read...

A boy was born to a couple after eleven years of marriage. They were a loving couple and the boy was the gem of their eyes. When the boy was around two years old, one morning the husband saw a medicine bottle open. He was late for office so he asked his wife to cap the bottle and keep it in the cupboard. His wife, preoccupied in the kitchen totally forgot the matter.

The boy saw the bottle and playfully went to the bottle fascinated by its color and drank it all. It happened to be a poisonous medicine meant for adults in small dosages. When the child collapsed the mother hurried him to the hospital, where he died. The mother was stunned. She was terrified how to face her husband.

When the distraught father came to the hospital and saw the dead child, he looked at his wife and uttered just five words.

QUESTIONS :
1. What were the five words ?
2. What is the implication of this story?

ANSWER :
The husband just said "I am with you Darling" The husband's totally unexpected reaction is a proactive behavior. The child is dead. He can never be brought back to life. There is no point in finding fault with the mother. Besides, if only he had taken time to keep the bottle away, this would not have happened.

No one is to be blamed. She had also lost her only child. What she needed at that moment was consolation and sympathy from the husband. That is what he gave her.

If everyone can look at life with this kind of perspective, there would be much fewer problems in the world. "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." Take off all your envies, jealousies, unforgiveness, selfishness, and fears. And you will find things are actually not as difficult as you think.

MORAL OF THE STORY
This story is really worth reading. Sometimes we spend time in asking who is responsible or whom to blame, whether in a relationship, in a job or with the people we know. By this way we miss out some warmth in human relationship.
